What answer did you give him?—I said that I did not know much about the coopering trade. He said Mr. Lee employed a great number of coopers. I said I was not aware of that; but if he did so, and there was an opening for him, I, perhaps, would make interest, and get him something. Robert Shirley, cooper, said : He voted for Leo and Whatman after having signed the requisition to Betts and Wardlaw. Burgess canvassed him. He said he wanted 4/. Burgess said he could not give it him without putting the matter before the committee. Afterwards went to WellB, who looked to Boo if his name was on the register. Finding it was he said " If 1 hod known you had been going to vote for Lee and Whatman you might as well have had the Christmas beef. I will take care you have it next year. He also said ho would write to Lee's manager and get him work. He got the 4/. on the Saturday after the election.
