The Will of Richard Shirley late of Chatham in. the County of Kent Gentleman deceased who died 30 December 1853 at Chatham aforesaid was proved at the Principal Registry by the oath of Elizabeth Mullinger of Gibraltar- place Chatham in the County of Kent Widow the Daughter the Executor substituted. Probate being granted under certain Specialties. Former Grant Prerogative Court of Canterbury February 1854. L7000

2(ii). George Shirley chr Aug 6 1784 at Chatham; Living at St Margaret Rochester, Kent; likely born about 1780. The 1824 Pigots Directory for Kent lists hiim as "Troy Town Academy, academics'.

"During many years, the Independents and Baptists residing in Rochester were mostly identified, as members, with the churches of Christ in Chatham and Strood. But, in 1851, a few of the members of the Independent church at Chatham, who had ardently desired a sanctuary in their own city, were offered a plot ground, near the Vines, Rochester, by Mr Shirley, one of the deacons of their church. In consequence of this offer, they invited the Rev. Dr Jenkyn to commence his ministry in that city, under the sanction of the church at Chatham."

Henry Richard Mark, son in law of Hounslow MDX, gentleman, and friend james Pearce of Woolwich Surrey solicitor executors. To my son George Ebenezer Shirley annuities in the Bank of England. To daughter Rebeca Stokes Hall; to my second daughter Mary Joanna Massett my bible. To my third daughter Phoebe Roberts Mark two volumes bound in purple Morrocco presented to me by my pupils in the year 1842. And to my fourth daugther Elizabeth. The residue of my estate consisting of a policy of insurance of the Argus Life Assurance co London to George Ebenezer Shirley <s> G. Shirley Wit Henry Paine, William Bartholomew.
