He is assumed to be the John Shirley who was enumerated at Priors Marston in the 1841 census, age 75 (born 1766). The following is his family:

married Elizabeth Bustin on 11 June 1810 at Kineton Warwickshire. She was born about 1784, age 56 in the 1841 census. Born at Harbury in 1784 according to 1851 census, widowed and enumerated in daughter Emma's household. Buried at St Leonard's Priors Marston on 15 Dec 1863, "age 80"

4(i). Emma Shirley born about 1820, age 20 in 1841 census. Christened 2 may 1820 to John and Elizabeth Shirley at Priors Marston. She died 14 April 1889 at Badington Warwickshire according to an online Mason family lineage. She married Richard Mason of Priors Marston

"...Interestingly the name Pratt keeps turning up as my great grandmother Louisa Mason youngest child of Richard and Emma, married a Thomas Pratt Coleman. In the Census records Elizabeth Shirley nee Bustin, when a Widow living with her daughter is on two occasions stated as "Own means" and after her death Richard Mason goes from Blacksmith to farmer, obviously, I guess, from his mother in law's legacy. Perhaps Mr. Bustin left his daughter money, as John Shirley does not sound particularly well off. My grandmother was Ethel Emma Shirley Coleman..." - Margaret
