Sir Ralph Shirley son of John Shirley of Ettington and Staunton Harold, Leic. and wife Elenor Willoughby; died 6 January 1516/17 [1509, Ralph leased Ettington to John Underhill and his wife, Agnes Porter]. He was 26 years old "and upwards" at the time of his father's death inquisition in 1487. He was sheriff of Leicestershire and served the King in his wars beyond the seas for one whole year. He was buried in the abbey church of Gerondon.

3.(ii) Francis Shirley Jan 26, 1515 d. Aug 1571. Buried in the church, Breedon on the Hill.

m. Dorothy Gifford 1535. She was formerly married to John Congreve. They were parents of two daughters who both married Underhills. The Underhills leased Ettington in 1541 from their stepfather, Francis Shirley - later resulting in a great legal dispute over the land of Ettington.

4. (vi) Mary Shirley died unmarried

4. (vi) Ralph Shirley (Stemmata says he died without issue). His father granted to him the manor of Hoon in Derbyshire and a moiety of the manor of Newton Regis, Warwickshire, for life).

4. (vii) John Shirley b 1535 d. 1570. Buried in Breedon on the Hill. He lived at Rakedale, now known as Ragdale estate, Leicestershire.

m. Jane Lovett 1558. [This marriage brought several manors to the Shirleys: Astwell in the county of Northampton, South Newington (Newton), in the county of Oxford, Dorington in the county of Gloucester, and St. Botolph's Bridge in the county of Huntington].
