Email: Richard Jeremiah Shirley (my great-grandfather was born in Douglas, Isle of Man, on 23 Nov. 1839, but grew up in Kilkenny, County Kilkenny, Ireland. I think he came to the U.S. in 1859 and went to either Lockport or Rockford, Illinois (his obituary says Rockport which I couldn't find in Illinois; since there's a Rockport in our area, I think someone just made a mistake). By 1870 he was in Refugio County, Texas, and by 1900 he was in Corpus Christi, Texas. My mother had relatives in Mexico who knew they were related through Richard Jeremiah to a James Shirley (not James Gilbert Shirley who we know we are related to). I have been told James Shirley was born in Kilkenny in 1846, the son of Thomas Shirley and Catherine Nolan
