7. John Riley Shirley Mar 25, 1798 died June 14, 1873 Fulton Co. Georgia Married 1st Acemith Kay Nov 30, 1817 and they had 7 children. She was the daughter of John and Rosannah Kay. He married 2nd Mary Eliz. Kay before 1850. She was born Jan 12, 1806 SC and died July 18, 1887. She was the daughter of Rev. William and Catherine Trussell Kay (widow of Asa Kay). John and Mary lived in Franklin Co. GA and went to Fulton Co. GA after 1852.  He was mentioned as out of state with wife, Polly, in the Trussell estate of March 29, 1854.

Her parents were Stephen R. Douglass and Elizabeth Moore they moved from VA to Forsyth County GA in 1844 and joined the M E Church and their they stayed members.

Note: Elizabeth Moore was the daughter of Abram Moore b 29 Jul 1799 SC and Rebecca Haley b 04 Dec 1797 d Bef. 1842 ( Rebecca Haley Died in Childbirth) Elizabeth was the oldest child living, and the family of Abram Moore lived right next door to Stephen R Douglass's Family. Notes from Grace for every trial written by Lucretia J Douglass, sister of Stephen R Douglass and he was the Husband of Elizabeth Moore. But when our good neighbor Mrs. Abram Moore died, I learned something about real heart-grief. Some of the children were at school, and sister and I were with them when a lady told them their good mother was dead. Oh, what a dreadful shock. We all jerked off our bonnets and ran every step, crying as we went. When we got their dear little Bettie, the eldest child, who is now the wife of brother Stephen, was in the yard crying. My mother met her and embraced her in her arms. Bettie said from that moment on she seemed like a mother to her.

After a while they let us all go in to see the dear dead mother and pretty little dead baby. Oh that scene was too painful. I shall not attempt to discribe it, but I learned something about the power of kindness and the worth of good parents. We lived with those children and though our distress was about equal to theirs, but it was not true. Their's was real home and heart-grief: ours only sympathy.
