"I've attached a scan of a photo that my father-in-law had. In it is, for certain, George Washington Shirley.
He is on the far left, in the first standing row, second from the left, with the dark hat and full mustache.
His son Jesse (my husband's grandfather) is on the porch in the center of the photograph, holding a shotgun.
I know that Jesse's brother Henry is in the photo, but I'm not sure where. His daughter Ann is on the far right,
on the first row, last in line, with no shoes on. There are several older folks in the photo--maybe you or
some of the others know them." - Jessie Emerson

married Violet Mackey sometime before 1880; she was born Jun 1860 in AL; She died 23 July 1928 in Berry Tuscalooa Co AL, age 72 years old. She was the daughter of John Mackey and wife Violet. Buried in Wiley Cemetery in Tuscaloosa Co AL.

Funeral services for John W. Shirley, 79, 231 24th Ave. East, will be today at 2 p.m. at Sulphur Springs Free Will Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Shirley died early Saturday night at Druid City Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Hattie Shirley; one son, Eugene Shirley of Tuscaloosa; three daughters, Mrs. Annabell Watkins of Berry, Mrs. Elzora Kimbrell of Berry and Mrs. Kathleen Reece of Elrod; 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Chris Shirley of Charlotte, N.C. Active pallbearers include David Shirley, James Otis Shirley, J.C. Day, Elton Reece, Cullen Watkins and John Doyle Watkins. "Tuscaloosa News", February 18, 1973.

Mrs. Maggie Lee Christian, 66, of Northport Star Route died Sunday afternoon at Druid City Hospital. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Goodwater Methodist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Survivors include her husband, Henry Grady Christian of Northport; three daughters, Mrs. Elona Smith, Mrs. Corene Malone and Mrs. Gelene Montgomery, all of Northport; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Hester Fields of Northport and Mrs. Annie Odom of Oklahoma; four brothers, Henry Shirley of Oakman, John Shirley of Tuscaloosa, Chris Shirley of North Carolina and Jesse Shirley of Chicago, Ill. Pallbearers will be Walter Ray Smith, Gordon Smith, Joe Beasley, Joe C. Malone Jr., David Smith, Gerald D. Malone and Ronald Montgomery."Tuscaloosa News", February 25, 1963.

Survivors include her husband, Moody Fields of Northport Rt. 1; four daughters, Mrs. Moody Barger of Northport, Mrs. Earl Homan and Mrs. Jimmy Phillips of Tuscaloosa and Mrs. Charles Mitchell of Centreville; five sons, Wilton Fields, George Fields, Billy Fields and Bobby Fields, all of Tuscaloosa, and James O.
