Memories of my 'growing up years' in Howell Co Mo - On the old home place

First off, I know it was in the Shirley family many many more year than I even I knew about as I grew up. Frances Meadows Shirley, Jarrett (my great, great grandmother deeded it to Thomas P. Shirley, my great grand father and he deeded it to Orville William Shirley , my father, I grew up there and lived there until I married. It lies 1/2 mile or so from the Free Union Cemetery where my Shirley family from Thoams P. Shirley on down are buried. I don't know where John or Frances are buried. As I grew up I remember my father telling about this awful tornado that blew away the first house when he was small school age child. And I remember the huge rocks that were the chimney to the fireplace. He said it took dishes and such right up the chimney. I remember my father telling my my great grandmother Elizabeth Keel Shirley was Cherokee Indian, full or half I can't say for sure. I remember my father mentioning Belle Starr from time to time but I don't know exactly where she fits into the Shirley family. I know her name was Myra Belle Shirley. I remember my father telling about living for a period of time in the Boston Mountains of North Arkansas below Jasper. I think it was for my grandmother's health. I remember my father talkign about working in the oil fields around Cleveland OK when a young man and seeing the famed "Doc Holiday" on the street there also workign in the almond orchards around Paso Robles, California. I remember my father being Justice of the Peace for a number of years. In the late 30's and maybe 40s. I remember the first marriage he performed. Our neighbor girl. By the time I came along all that was left of my father's family was he and two sisters. They were Maud who married J.E. Franks. They had a daughter and a son. My father Orville William Shirley who married Clovis McAninch and they had a daughter and a son. Me and my brother William A. (Jack) Shirley - Catherine Shirley Sigler
