He lived at Twyning Parish Gloucestershire in 1851 census, widowed. Occupation: Land and house proprietors. His nephew Leadbeater Shirley and cousin Sarah Dring lived in his household. He also employed 2 servants. The family still lived at Twyning Green in 1861, and employed a governess for son Thomas. He died on 15 October 1869, age 67 at Twyning Gloucestershire

Pursuant to the Act of Parliament 22nd and 23rd Vic., cap. 35, intituled “An Act to further amend the Law of Property, and to relieve Trustees.” NOTICE is hereby given, that all creditors and other persons having any claims upon or against the estate of Thomas Shirley, late of Twyning, in the county of Gloucester, Gentleman, deceased (who died on the 15th day of October, 1869, and whose will was proved in the Principal Registry of Her Majesty's Court of Probate, on the 22nd day of December, 1869, by Amelia Charlotte Shirley, widow, the relict of the said deceased, Frederick Giles Stephens and Charles William Lane, the executors named in such will), are hereby required to send particulars of their respective debts, claims, or demands to us the undersigned, Solicitors for the executors, on or before the 31st day of March, 1870, after which time the said executors will proceed to distribute the assets of the said Thomas Shirley, deceased, among the persons entitled thereto, having regard only to the debts, claims, and demands of which they shall then have had notice; and that the said executors will not, after that time, be liable for the assets so distributed to any person of whose debt, claim, or demand they shall not then have had notice.—Dated this 3rd day of February, 1870. married 2) Amelia Charlotte Caldwell in 1853. Shown in 1873 Land Census as "Mrs Shirley" owner of 72 acres. Listed as 'widower landowner' at Twyning in 1881. Her sister Mary Caldwell lived with her in 1881 census. She was age 71 in 1901 Twyning Gloucestershire census. Apparently died in 1902.

1743 - 1781 Gloucestershire RO D2079/III/125 (Shirley on the packet) (Caldwell, Shirley, apparently allied by marriage). Description: 2 messuages and c. 50 acres of land in Twyning and messuage, cider mill house and 2 yard lands in Twyning with abstract of title reciting deeds, 1673-1756; copy of the will of Sarah Fancourt of St. Clement Danes, Middlesex, widow (will made 1756) and office copy of the will of Thomas Collins 'formerly' of Twyning, 'late' of Droitwich, [Worcs.], gent. (probate 1781)

4(i). Thomas Caldwell Shirley christened 18 Nov 1854 at All Saints, Evesham, Worcester. He was a pupil in the census household (presumably a school) of Henry de Romester at Cheltenham in 1871 census. In 1881, his occupation was listed as "BA Cambridge". He was unmarried, living with his elderly mother at Twyning in 1891 census, Occupation: farmer and then again in 1901 census, age 46. Occupation: Insurance agent. He died in 1935, age 80. Buried at Twyning. Gloucestershire
