2(v). Hugh Shirley
lived on lot #13 of Chester Township, Rockingham Co NH. He was clerk of the Presbyterian Parish under Rev John Wilson. He was in a Regiment that went to the French and Indian War in the Crown Point Expedition in 1758 and was with Wolfe at Quebec in 1759, and again in the same Regiment in 1760. He was a Major in Col. John Stark's Regiment in the Battle of  Bunker Hill 17 June 1776 and served under Stark after he, Stark, was promoted to General. He sold 50 acres to son Peter Shirley (Lot #14 in Chester Rockingham Co NH) on 3 February 1804. He apparently died sometime around 1804.

3(i). Peter Shirley, gent. born about 1776 in Chester NH. Occupation: husbandman ('gentleman' in 1808, and 1822 land transactions). "who sold the home place after his father's death and went to Maine." (Chester history). Peter sold his property in Chester to the township in 1822. This was the same year that all of the related land transactions between him and his brothers were recorded in the deed books, and also the year his brother James died in Belfast Maine. He died at Belmont Waldo Co Maine in March 1824, age 48.

married Mary Christy. born about 1772; She relinquised her dower rights when husband Peter sold all of their land in Chester in 1822. Her surname is listed in son Daniel Shirley's death record; She was living in son Daniel Shirley's household in 1850 census

4(i). Daniel Shirley born about 1808; Named as a minor above the age of 14 in 1824 after the death of his father. Lived in Belmont, Waldo Co Maine in 1850 with his brother Christopher Shirley in Vinalhaven Knox Co in 1860. He died at Belmont Maine 5 Apr 1892, age 93, single (b 1799). Death certificate names his parents. Never married

[1880s court case] It appears that the pauper [Daniel Shirley] never was married, and never possessed much more property than his clothes, always acquiring his living by working out; that he went to Belmont in 1822 with his father, residing there until the spring of 1860, when he went to Vinalhaven to work, leaving his sister in Belmont, his only relative left there, with whom he had for some time previously lived.

4(ii). Christopher Shirley born 14 May 1822 (online pedigree), but age 36 in 1850; Named as a minor under the age of 14 in 1824 after the death of his father; He was a private in the 1839 muster roll for the Aroostook War. He is living with [presumed] brother Daniel Shirley in 1850 census of Belmont Waldo co ME (with wife and child); He lived at Carver's Harbor PO, Vinalhaven Knox Co ME in 1860, occupation fisherman; He is missing from the 1870 family household; According to an online family tree, he died January 26, 1905, but there is a 1863 Civil War death record for a Christopher Shirley of Maine which is more likely the correct person. He served in the 21st regiment, co H of Maine infantry.

married Sarah Ingerson on 14 December 1847 at Waldo Co ME. She was born about 1817 NH, age 33 in 1850 census; living alone with children in 1870 Knox Co ME census; She and daughter Faustina Shirley living in Kittredge family in 1880 census.

married Hattie B Davis; she is widowed and living with her sister Mrs Alford Green in 1900 census, saying she is the mother of 2 children; She appears to have remarried to William Jameson in 1907.

5(iii). Faustina Shirley born about 1853, age 7 in 1860 census, age 16 in 1870; She and mother living in Kittredge family in 1880; Supposedly, she married Roberts in Vinalhaven ME

4(iii). William Shirley born about 1812; Named as a minor above the age of 14 in 1824 after the death of his father. He died in Essex Co Mass in 1840, age 28, residence Belmont ME

4(iv). Louisa Shirley Named as a minor under the age of 14 in 1824 after the death of his father.

4(v). Mary Shirley Named as a minor under the age of 14 in 1824 after the death of his father.

The descent of Peter Shirley may have died out in the male line

3(ii). William Shirley Jr, husbandman. He sold land and all other real estate in Chester to brother Peter Shirley on 23 Oct 1804 "which my hon'd father Hugh Shirley died seized of".

3(iii). James Shirley husbandman. born about 1765 (age 57 at death in 1822) lived in Belfast, Hancock (later Waldo) County Maine. On 23 Oct 1804 James sold two lots of land to Peter and William Shirley both of Chester, Rockingham Co NH, land lately owned by his late "father Hugh Shirley of Chester NH, dec'd". Lot #13 in Chester and a town lot in Belfast Maine. James settled in the Belfast ME (then part of Mass) around 1796. Died 14 July 1822, age 55 at Belfast, Hancock (later Waldo) Co ME; Buried Mount Hope Cemetery, Searsport Waldo Co Maine

April 16 1852 "The names of two of the crew lost in the wreck of the brig Mariel of Searsport upon the Cohasset rocks, were Capt. Josiah S. Staples and Daniel Shirley of Searsport. 5(vii). Francis Emma Shirley born 13 July 1848 at Unity, Maine (according to her death cert), age 1 in 1850 census household, age 11 in widowed mother's 1860 census household; Living with brother Mark's family in 1880 census; She died 31 Jan 1911 at South Framingham, Massachusetts
