in the census). Then appears in Habersham Co GA 1840 and 1850

Elizabeth Shirley**
"Sister" of Geo B Shirley in 1880 census |
** 1820 Census - male child was also ID'd as age 16-18
** Elizabeth Shirley age 40 "sister" and her daughter
Sally age 3 "Neice" were enumerated in the 1880 household
of George B Shirley, She may be "E. Shirley" (female)
born 1840 living with Aaron Shirley Sr and wife Lissa in 1850
census along with G B Shirley, but not likely a "sister",
more like a neice, the 1840 birthdate for Elizabeth is too late
for Lissa Shirley unless George B Shirley is himself not a son
of Aaron and Lissa Shirley? In 1900 Elizabeth Shirley born 1839
"widow" was enumerated in Franklin Co GA with daughter
Sally born 1879 (age 21) - In 1910 mother and daughter (Vista)
are in Habersham Co GA. Are they the same? If so, then Elizabeth
as a widow would not have been the "sister" but instead
sister-in-law of George B Shirley. Vista S Shirley appeared as
age 5 in the 1880 Habersham Co household of Young J Shirley and
his wife Elizabeth M (born 1842) Young J Shirley didn't die
before 1880, This is all messed up
married Elizabeth "Lissa" __________ born
about 1778 SC

Habersham GA census

Habersham GA census
There are 3 Shirleys living in the 1850 census household
N Shirley (male ) born 1835, J Shirley (male) born 1833, E Shirley
(female) born 1840, thus likely grandchildren (Lissa would be
much too old)
George Bowman Shirley born about
1821 in South Carolina, (daughter Jane's death cert says born
Hart Co GA) likely the son of Aaron Shirley Sr and wife Elizabeth
who migrated from Laurens Co SC to Habersham Co GA about 1830.
George appeared in Aaron's 1850 census household (as G. B Shirley)
age 33, born about 1817; He married in 1852 and was enumerated
in Habersham Co, at Clarksville PO in 1860, age 39 (b 1821),
occupation miller, with wife and children ; He moved to Franklin
Co GA by 1870, age 49 (b 1821), farm laborer; And lived in Hart
Co GA in 1880 census, age 59 (b 1821), works in factory. Note:
the middle name "Bowman" was taken from son George's
death certificate.
His "sister" Elizabeth Shirley
age 40 and her daughter Sally age 3 "Neice" were enumerated
in his 1880 household, She may be "E.
Elizabeth Shirley born 1839 "widow"
was enumerated in Franklin Co GA with daughter Sally born 1879
(age 21) - are they the same? If so, then Elizabeth would not
have been the "sister" but instead sister-in-law of
George B Shirley
married Annie Dyer on 3 December 1850 in Habersham
GA; She was age 43 in husband's 1870 census household
children:
1(i). Susan Shirley born about 1852 GA, age 8 in 1860
census (as S. Susan E.), age 17 in 1870 census
1(ii). Thomas M Shirley born about 1854 GA, age 6 in
1860 census, not found in 1870 family household, likely died
young
1(iii). Rexian E Shirley (female) born about 1856 GA,
age 4 in 1860 census, not found in 1870 family household,
likely died young
1(iv). Salina A Shirley born about 1859 GA, age 1 in
1860 census (as Salina A), 11 in 1870 census (as Hilly S), age
21 in parent's 1880 census household (as Sarah)
1(v). Amanda Shirley born about 1861 GA, age 9 in 1870
census, age 19 in parent's 1880 census household
1(vi). Jane Ellen Shirley born about 1863 Hart Co GA
(death cert), age 7 in 1870 census (as Jane), age 17 in parent's
1880 census household (as Ellen J). She died 18 November 1929
at Anderson Co SC, buried Shoal Creek Cem Hart Co GA (father
named in death cert)
1(vii). George Lawson Shirley born 16 April 1865 Hart
(or Habersham) Co GA, son of George Bowman Shirley and wife Anne
Dyer (death cert, Social Security), age 3 in 1870 census, age
14 in 1880 census (as female Georgia L). He died age 78, buried
Anderson Co SC (death cert), unmarried.
1(viii). William Shirley born about 1871 GA, age 9
in 1880 census
NOT the son of George Bowman Shirley
Morgan G Shirley born 2 May 1859 at Franklin Co GA,
son of Bowman Shirley; (death cert)
He died 1 May 1931 age 71 at Oconee Co SC. why
does he not appear in family census households?
He is the son of Abraham Shirley of
Franklin Co GA, listed as such in 1880 census - So why does his
death certificate name Bowman as his father - did the informant
get it wrong?
