Will of William Shirley, Yeoman of Chart Sutton Vallence , Kent - 23 February 1791. Loving wife Abigail Shirley. to my two daughters Ann the wife of Thomas Bolds and Abigail Shirley. Unto my two sons William and Samuel Shirley. To my son John Shirley all household goods in and about my dwelling house. Unto my four sons John, Edward, William and Samuel Shirley share and share alike. William and Samuel Shirley executors. Wit: Wm Rolfe, Chas Brooks, Jno Seeley. Proven 14 April 1791 by William and Samuel Shirley, sons. PROB 11/1204

married Abigail Jarman on 4 August 1754 at East Sutton; She died March 1808

4(i). William Shirley  b. Sept 28, 175__ bapt. 15 Oct 1754 at Chart Sutton, Kent; d. Feb 8, 1819 

(I suspect he is the one with his name in the math book dated 1768 discovered in about the year 2000 in England)

    PCC Will of William Shirley, Gentleman of Chart next Sutton Valence , Kent -11 May 1811 - appoint my brother Mr Samuel Shirley and my friend Mr Stephen Waller of chart aforesaid gentemen and loving wife Mary Shirley joint executors and guardians of my children during their minorities. to my eldest son William Pettindon Shirley my leasehold manor of Boyton otherwise Boynton and messuages etc situate in parish of East Sutton...until all of my children reach the age of twenty one...my six youngest children: Mary Susannah Shirley, John Shirley Elizabeth Abigail Shirley, Thomas shirley, Ann Shirley and Susannah Shirley....to the use of John Cox of Han[ ] in the said county yeoman...and William Cox lease for 99 years...my eldest son William Pettenden Shirley being amply provided for by the will of his great uncle the late Thomas Shirley deceased. Wit: Eliz Waterman of East Sutton, Wm Harrison of Leeds, Weller Norwood atty at law. - Proven 01 October 1819 by Samuel Shirley, brother PROB 11/1621

      PCC Will of Mary Shirley, Widow of Sutton Valence , Kent - 16 July 1849 - all and singular my real and personal estate unto my daughter Ann Shirley. Appoint Ann Shirley and son in law Thomas Grant executrix and executor. Wit: Thomas Kipping solicitor Maidstone, Mary Ann [G]ulvin Sutton Valence. Proven 25 June 1853 by Ann Shirley spinster the daughter and Thomas Grant exors to widow PROB 11/2174

5(i). William Pettenden Shirley bapt Jan 13, 1791 d. Feb 27, 1848; buried 6 Mar 1848 at Chart Sutton Kent Inherited Ivy House

      PCC Will of Pettenden Shirley gentleman of Maidstone Kent, appoint son William Shirley and Thomas Kipping trustees; wife Elizabeth Coleman Shirley wines liquors stores; my two children William Pettenden Shirley and Elizabeth Abigail Shirley. Wit: William Baily, C.A. Baily, Ann A. [ ] nnell. Proven 8 April 1848 by William Pettenden Shirley the son and Thomas Kipping the nephew[sic], the executors. PROB 11/2073
       
      "William Pettenden Shirley (1791 - 1848) and his wife Elizabeth Bailey had 2 children neither of whom had any children so the line dies out on William's death in 1898 and the house "Ivy House" is willed to W.S.P. Grant, a descendant of his sister, Susanna (1803 - 1888) who had married Thomas Grant and had a son Thomas who in turn had a son Thomas."

married Elizabeth Coleman Bailey on 19 Sep 1815 at Lenham Kent; She was born Aug 8, 1798 at Maidstone Kent; Living in Sutton Valence in 1871 census; died March 1, 1876.

6(i). William Pettenden Shirley b abt 1816 East Sutton Kent; living with mother in 1861 household at Mailing Kent and at Sutton Valence in 1871 census; he died 16 Dec 1898 at Chart Sutton "without children"; Inherited Ivy House

6(ii). Elizabeth Abigail Shirley b abt 1819 East Sutton Kent; living with mother in 1861 household at Mailing Kent and at Sutton Valence in 1871 census; Apparently no children

23 March, The Will of Elizabeth Abigail Shirley formerly of Wrotham but late of West Bank Sutton Valence both in the County of Kent Spinster who died 1 March 1881 at West Bank was proved at the Principal Registry by William Pettenden Shirley of West Bank Gentleman the Brother the surviving Executor, L4000

5(ii). Mary Susannah Shirley never married; died 1846

      PCC Will of Mary Susannah or Mary Susanna Shirley, Spinster of Sutton Valence , Kent -appoint my brother William Pettenden Shirley of Maidstone Kent gentleman and my brother in law Thomas Grant of Dover in the county [ ] executors. furniture etc unto my sister Ann Shirley; all real estate residual and remainder unto William Pettenden Shirley and Thomas Grant to hold in trust...debts etc...my mother Mary Shirley. Wit: George Higgins carpenter Sutton Valence, Thomas Porter Sutton Valence; Proven 05 June 1846 by brother William Pettenden Shirley and Thomas Grant PROB 11/2038

5(iii). John Shirley named in brother Thomas Shirley's 1834 LW&T - apparently did not have children or survive his nephews, the sons of brother William Shirley.

5(iv). Elizabeth Abigail Shirley b 1796 d 1826, married Thomas Kipping on 27 January 1818 at Chart Sutton; married Lewis Michael Wibmer

5(v). Thomas Shirley

      PCC Will of Thomas Shirley, Gentleman of Sutton-Valence , Kent - 9 October 1834 - appoint my brother William Pettenden Shirley and Thomas Grant of Sutton Valence gents executors. unto my mother Mary Shirley and [written above] my sisters Mary Susanna Shirley and Ann Shirley my messuages or tenaments situate in Sutton Valence or Town Sutton Sheet in occupation of the said Mary Shirley and William Pettenden Shirley. To my brothers William Pettenden Shirley and John Shirley, my brother in law Thomas Kipping. Wit: Edwin Bridge of Sutton Valence, B Dela[ ] of Leyton Essex, George Higgins of Sutton Valence. Proven 19 February 1835 PROB 11/1843

5(vii). Susanna Shirley b 1803 d 1888 m. Thomas Grant. They had a son Thomas who in turn had a son Thomas. Inherited Ivy House from the Shirleys

4(ii). Ann Shirley named in father's 1791 LW&T married Thomas Bolds

4(iii). Abigail Shirley named in father's 1791 LW&T

4(iv). Thomas Shirley bapt. 13 Jul 1756 at Chart Sutton Kent; d. Nov 8, 1761  (4 yrs of age)

4(v). Mary Shirley bapt. 22 Jan 1758 at Chart Sutton Kent; d. Nov 30, 1761 (2yrs of age)

4(vi). Samuel Shirley of Boughton Monchelsea Kent bapt. 31 Jul 1759 at Chart Sutton Kent; named in father's 1791 LW&T and uncle Thomas Shirley's 1805 LW&T and brother's 1811 LW&T

4(vii). John Shirley bapt. 1 Apr 1761 at Chart Sutton Kent; named in father's 1791 LW&T

4(viii). Edward Shirley bapt. Dec 16, 1764 d. Mar 16, 1853; named in father's 1791 LW&T and uncle Thomas Shirley's 1805 LW&T

PCC Will of Edward Shirley gentleman of Chart Sutton Kent - 29 Mar 1852 - to my son Clement Shirley 10L to my son Charles Shirley 10L. All messuages, buildings situate in Highgate and at Southwood in Highgate in Middlesex now in occupation of John White, Ramsey, Kirby et al unto aforesaid sons....Wit: John Charles Brooks of Chart Sutton, George Hughes of Chart Sutton. Proven by Clement and Charles Shirley 20 April 1853. PROB 11/2171

Edw Shirley of Chart Sutton bach & Eliz Crispe of Sutton Valence minor; daugher of John Crisp; at Chart Sutton 25 Aug 1788.
