Research - It is quite likely (although not proven) that
Annie/Leanna Shirley, the mother of this family was a slave in
the possession of John "Judge" Shirley of Missouri
who moved to Dallas Texas, and who was the father of notorious
western outlaw Myra Belle Shirley aka Belle Starr. Judge Shirley's
son Mansfield Shirley is named the father of at least 2 of Annie
Shirley's children in their respective death certificates. John
Shirley himself named in the death certificate of a third child
who was a twin - thus, if correct, the father also of the 2nd
twin. Annie Shirley is also likely "Aunt Annie" who
was interviewed in 1894 in a Dallas newspaper about Belle Starr's
family;

Annie Shirley (aka Leanna and
aka Dinah). born 17 August 1845 in Georgia, daughter of Henry
Miles and Mary Lu Jones (source: death certificate, however
various census identified her birth at Missouri, which is more
likely true) Annie Shirley was first conclusively identified,
as are her children, in the 1880 census of Dallas County Texas;
She was age 35 born Missouri with 5 children living in the household;
She was said to be widowed, although no marriage has yet been
found. In 1900, she was enumerated as Lean or Le an Shirley,
age 54, with 5 of her 7 children alive in that year, her father
and mother said to be born in Virginia; She was again enumerated
in Dallas in 1910 as Annie Shirley, age 64; Several of her children
and her grandchildren were living in the household; In 1920,
Annie Shirley lived in the house headed by her widowed daughter
Laura Shirley (who kept her Shirley surname) at Canton Street
Dallas. Annie was 72 and said to be widowed; Her parents were
said to both be born in Missouri instead of Virginia as was the
case in prior census; She died on 16 November 1928, age 83 and
was buried at Woodland Cemetery, Dallas TX

otherwise known as "Juneteenth"; George was the son
of Mansfield Shirley according to his death certificate; was
age 7 in 1870 census, age 16 in 1880 census, age 37 in mother's
1900 census household; Listed as a widower at the time; In the
Dallas 1910 census, George was enumerated as white, age 42 and
married to wife Lillian for 9 years; In 1920, George had by that
date purchased a home on Haskell Avenue, age 56 and was living
there with wife Alice L (Lillian) Shirley. Lillian died in 1935
and George married a 31 year old woman in Cooke County TX There
were no children in any of George's census households; He was
the informant at the death of his mother Annie Shirley in 1928
and at the death of his brother Lee Shirley in 1935; George died
30 June 1951 and was buried at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery,
Dallas TX;

back from me to ... (Jerry Joe Shirley Jr, 1948-2019), his father
(Jerry Joe Shirley Sr, 1922-1974, lived in/near Dallas), and
