Nov 5, 1877 Le Claire, Iowa. Ambrose was a carpenter, a farmer
and later became a Justice of the Peace for almost 50 years.

Philena Perrin June 24, 1819 in Fayette Co. Indiana. She was
born July 23, 1801 d. Jan 19, 1848 Cedar Co. and
was the daughter of John Perrin and his wife, Hephzibah Williams.
John Perrin was a native of Rehoboth MA. and the 7th generation
to have lived there. He and his family moved to Scott Co. Iowa
about 1840.

home in the company of Buffalo Bill at age 14 years. He served
in the Civil War as Sergeant in Co. C 83rd Illinois. He moved
to Denver Colorado and was in the real estate and loan
agent business. It was named S. J. Shirley & Company. The
company was involved in homesteads, timber claims, pre-emption
locations and business before the U. S. Land Office opened.

He was in the
Union Army of the Civil War in company C of the 8th Regiment,
Iowa Calvary Volunteers, mustered out on Aug 13, 1865 at Macon,
Georgia. After his move to Denver Colorado, he worked in
real estate. He is buried Riverside Cemetery in Denver,

is the sister of Hannah Lancaster who married John Franklin Shirley).
Sarah was born Oct 8, 1849 in Illinois daughter of Thomas Lancaster
who was born in Connecticut and Cynthia Smith born in PA.
Thomas Lancaster was a steam boat captain on the Mississippi
River and resided at Le Claire, Iowa.

CA. She was the Grand Matron of the Rebecca Lodge
of the State of Colorado.

George was a printer and also sold Electrostatic suppressors
for printing presses. He was also a photographer and worked in
Denver as a linotype operator.. Before 1906 the family went to
Boonville Missouri where he worked on the local newspaper. From
Boonville he went to Warrensburg and worked for the same publisher.
He became the editor of the Warrensburg newspaper until 1918.
Later George decided to be a geologist and taught himself. About
1920 the family moved to a cotton field near Rosenberg, Texas.
George drilled and brought in an oil well. During this time the
family lived in tents.

He enlisted in the U. S. Navy as an Apprentice Seaman 1931.
He made the Navy his career attending the Naval Academy at Annapolis
Maryland. He graduated and became an officer, attended Massachusetts
Institute of Technology in Cambridge earning a Master degree
in both Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. John became
a Professional Engineer, registered in Washington DC. He retired
from the Navy as a Captain after 32 years of service in 1963.
He and his wife, Evelyn, were married June 22, 1940. They
have attended many Shirley Conventions and traveled with me three
times to England and once to Australia and New Zealand
when we held a series of meetings in those countries. They have
visited me in our home a few times and I was a guest in their
home. Because our Shirley Conventions were usually in June near
or on their anniversary, we would learn of John's gift he just
gave to Evelyn the night before or on the day of, etc. Usually
it was a nice piece of jewlery. Everyone would congratulate them
and we'd sing Happy Anniversary to them. They loved it. It was
great fun. John passed away a few years ago. We really miss him.
