married to Dorcas ____. Family tradition says she was a Cullen/Cullins.

Family traditional story says Richard is the son of Richard Shirley and wife, Margaret, who were dismissed from the Broad Run Baptist church June 12, 1774 in Fauquier Co. VA to go to Culpeper Co. VA. On Jan 22, 1785 they were among the charter members of the Old Turkey Creek Baptist church in Abbeville Co. South Carolina.

Another traditional story says Richard is the brother of John Shirley branch #2, who married Eliz. Barmore.

3. Susannah Shirley b Oct 1, 1769 VA, died April 29, 1848 Boone Co. IN. She married Benjamin Smith who was born Sept 15, 1769 VA d. Sept 5, 1853 Boone Co. IN, buried Old Mt. Tabor Cemetery.
