1st Sunday in August 2009

My Grandmother was Cumi Estell Shirley (b. 5-5-1893 in Columbiana, Alabama and died 5-21-1966 in Augusta, Georgia. She is buried In Clanton, Alabama. Her father was EDW (Elonza Duke William Shirley, b. 12-18-1865 and died 8-5-1928 in Clanton, Alabama. They are buried at the New Harmony Cemetery.

The family reunion in Clanton is the first Sunday in August every year, and it is the EDW Shirley side of the family. It is so important to continue traditions, and to tell stories to our young people of the older ones now gone.

UPDATE:

Hi Ken,

Thank you for posting the announcement of our Shirley Reunion in Clanton, Alabama. It is held at the Community Center in Clanton.

I told you that my grandmother was Cumi Estell Shirley and that she is buried at the New Harmony Cemetery in Clanton and I was mistaken. She is buried at Trinity Primitive Baptist Church in Whigham, Georgia. Her father, EDW (Elonza Duke William Shirley) is buried at New Harmony Cemetery in Clanton. Just wanted to clarify that fact. Grandma, (Cumi) married Fletcher Golden Teel. He is also buried at Trinity Primitive Baptist Church in Whigham, Ga.

Thanks! Happy 4th of July!

Susan

SEPTEMBER 28, 2008

Argeland Shirley descendants  (branch #10)

Spencer Henry Shirley branch of the Shirley Clan will hold a Family reunion on September 30 th. The Family will meet at the Historical Bethel Church a few miles East of Emden, IL. The Shirley Family was one of the founding Fathers in the Church.

Our service will consist of one of the descendants doing the speaking while the rest of the service is conducted by other Family members.

The Church is closed and in the hands of the Historical Society and a OK is needed to hold services there. It does not have electricity so some time the temperature can be either hot or cool. A interesting place as it is located by a cemetery and lots of history is in the reading of the tombstones.

The Church service will be an hour long and then the Family will congregate at the Prairieland Christian Church, formerly the Hartsburg Christian, in Hartsburg, about five miles away, to enjoy a meal and fellowship.

One of the Family members will present a slide show of the pictures of former years. It is  a great fellowship time to just talk and meet family members that have not been seen for quite awhile.

If any further information is needed the following can be contacted.
