William Stubley Shurley, Jr. born 31 August 1757 (source: Bible transcription of Richard Charles Shirley); He served as a private in the 2nd Company Col. Robert Middleton's Georgia troops (DAR has a different service listed); Note: lineages often place this William Shurley in early Warren Co GA, but this is wrong; A published transcription of his son Richard's bible says he died 3 June 1799; Another account says he died 3 June 1789; Supposedly buried on his farm near Macon Bibb County Georgia

Note: In 1933, Mrs Vance Rankin applied to the US government for military headstones for both Wm S Shirley (above) and Richard Charles Shirley (b. and d correct below). Her application cites the correct birth date for William, but identifies a very curious death date 3 June 1789. Was her application in error, or are we talking about a different pair of Williams and Richards?

Purchased 50 acres on Walnut Creek in Jones Co from John Brooks in 1811; Living in Jones Co GA in 1820 census; He died Oct 10, 1833 Jones Co. GA

married 1) Sarah Brooks Aug 5, 1804 Jones Co. GA. She was born Dec 5, 1787, daughter of John Brooks. She died Dec 5, 1824 Jones Co. GA.

married 2) Phoebe Nancy Porter Oct 26, 1826 Jones Co. GA, sister of Uriah Porter

3(ii). (likely) Edward Shurley born about 1788 GA; named in an 1808 Jones Co GA court record with ?brothers Richard Shurley and Thomas Shurley regarding the estate of John Brooks, dec'd.. There are many unsorted Edward Shirley/Shurleys during this time. Confusion is very easy. SEE POSSIBLE LINEAGE FOR THIS EDWARD LIVING IN CRAWFORD CO GA

3(ii). (likely) Thomas Shurley named in an 1808 Jones Co GA court record with ?brothers Richard Shurley and Edward Shurley regarding the estate of John Brooks, dec'd. Not found in 1820 census for any state. Nothing more known

The following have long been claimed as children of William Stubley Shurley Jr (as siblings of Richard Charles Shurley of Jones Co GA), as published in 'Roster of Revolutionary War Soldiers in Georgia, Vol 3', by McCall (1941). But the source contains a clear error w.r.t Mahaley Parker (below). She is specifically mentioned as a daughter in the 1841 will of William Shirley of Warren Co GA, who is not the same William as above - thus the entire list is suspect and likely a product of early flawed connect-the-dots genealogy research; Confirmation needed.

James Shirley born about 1783 (Triplets) corporal, 2d Regiment (Jenkin's) Georgia Volunteers and Militia, War of 1812 from Wilkes Co GA; Nothing more known.

John Shirley born about 1783 (triplets); Nothing more known.

Samuel Shirley born about 1783 (triplets); corporal, 2d Regiment (Jenkin's) Georgia Volunteers and Militia, War of 1812 from Wilkes Co GA; Nothing more known.

Mahaley Shirley born about 1785 ('Roster' source says she married Parker, but this marriage did not take place until 1832 in Warren Co GA, and is likely referring to another person, so is this source accurate?)

Mary Shirley born about 1786. Nothing more known.
